One of the key aspects of Windrose is gunpowder, a resource needed to fire bullets from the various firearms in the game. At the beginning, players will only have access to gunpowder from enemy and container drops; however, gunpowder can be crafted after unlocking the second biome of the game, opening up purely ranged playstyles, and allowing users to shoot their guns much more frequently. Acquiring gunpowder can be further boosted by hiring its associated worker from the Brethren of the Coast base.
1. Gunpowder is made at the Millstones crafting station, which is unlocked by acquiring various resources from the Foothills biome.
2. To unlock the station, players must find Corn at an Ancient Village in the Foothills.
Note: Corn is only used to unlock the Millstones crafting station, and is not used to make gunpowder.
3. After obtaining corn, Sulfur must be mined, which requires an Iron Pickaxe or better. Sulfur can be found on any island, however it is more plentiful in the Foothills.
4. With both resources obtained, open the Workbench and create Millstone Parts.
5. Press B to enter Building Mode.
6. Right-click to open the Building Panel.
7. Select the Millstones crafting station.
8. Place the station under a roof.
9. Open the station and choose the Homemade Gunpowder recipe.
10. Craft 10 Pieces of gunpowder by spending 10 Sulfur and 20 Ash.
11. Ash is mainly created at the Charcoal Kiln by burning wood.
12. To make gunpowder more efficiently, Mortar Joe can be hired for 500 Piastre at the Brethren of The Coast main base. He will increase gunpowder production at his assigned station by 50%.
