On a Stardew Valley server, the in-game clock runs continuously to maintain synchronization among all connected players. As a result, the in-game day keeps passing even when participants are away from their screens or looking through their inventory. Without a pause, characters might pass out from staying up too late, seasons can change and ruin crops, and festivals can be missed. Pausing the server stops the clock completely, freezing the farm exactly as it was, preventing any unwanted events while players are away.
