Valheim servers can change the default death penalty to create a more relaxing or more tense experience. Users have multiple options to enable, ranging from losing all skills on death to completely deleting items rather than dropping them, to retaining their equipped gear. This setting can be updated at any time without resetting player progress, allowing users to adjust it as needed and ensuring flexibility.
Note: By default, Valheim only allows players to keep certain items through death. For a player to keep their entire inventory, mods are required.
How to Change the Death Penalty on a Valheim Server (World Modifiers)
1. Log in to the BisectHosting Starbase panel.
2. Stop the server.
3. Select the Settings tab and choose Valheim Server Options.
4. Under Keep Equipped on Death, choose Enabled to retain any equipped items after dying.
5. To increase the penalty for dying, review the other on Death settings available.

How to Keep All Items on Death (Server Mod Installation)

1. Download Helheim Harmonizer from the Thunderstore website.
2. Extract the zip file into an empty folder, then minimize the file for later use.
3. Log in to the BisectHosting Starbase panel.
4. Stop the server.
5. Go to the Files tab.
6. Find the following directory: /home/container/BepInEx/plugins
7. Upload the mods .dll file to the server.
8. Start and Stop the server.
9. Find the following directory: /home/container/BepInEx/config
10. Open the Azumatt.HelheimHarmonizer.cfg file.
11. Navigate to the [Death Control] section.
12. Change the NoItemLossOnDeath setting to On.
Note: Additional settings for skill reduction on death, fixed spawns, and more can be changed within the config.
13. Press Save.
14. Start the server.
How to Keep All Items on Death (Client Mod Installation)
1. Download and launch the Thunderstore Mod Manager.
2. Search for Valheim and choose Select Game.
3. Press Select Platform with the desired platform chosen.
4. Select the desired profile.
5. From the Get mods tab, Search for the HelheimHarmonizer mod by Azumatt.
6. Choose the Download button.
7. Select Download with dependencies.
8. When ready to start, press Start Modded.
