Connecting via SFTP provides a secure, encrypted tunnel for transferring sensitive website files and data between a local machine and a web hosting server. This method uses the SSH protocol to prevent unauthorized interception of login credentials and file content during upload or download. Establishing an SFTP connection allows for efficient bulk file management and precise editing of site directories without relying on less secure alternatives.

How to Connect an SFTP to a Web Hosting Server (WinSCP)
1. Log in to the cPanel.
2. Take note of the Primary Domain.
3. Download and launch WinSCP.
4. Choose New Session. If the login panel automatically appears, skip this step.
5. From the File protocol: dropdown, choose SFTP.
6. Under Host name:, input the domain from step 2.
7. In the User name and Password fields, enter the cPanel login credentials.
Note: Press the Save button to save the connection details.
8. Click Login.
How to Connect an SFTP to a Web Hosting Server (CyberDuck)
1. Log in to the cPanel.
2. Take note of the Primary Domain.
3. Download and launch Cyberduck.
4. Choose Open Connection.
5. Open the dropdown menu and select SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol).
6. Next to Server:, input the domain from step 2.
7. In the User name and Password fields, enter the cPanel login credentials.
Note: Mark the checkbox next to Save Password to connect more easily next time.
