Satisfactory starting areas offer a different experience for each location. The starting zones vary from rolling green fields to high cliffs or rocky deserts. It's worth noting that each zone is simply the area the player starts in, since Satisfactory has a single interconnected map. Even if players start from the Grass Fields, they can explore and build in other locations by simply traveling there.

| Starting Area | Difficulty | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Grass Fields | Beginner | The first viable building location FICSIT found stood out for its open, flat fields, making it ideal for beginners. The distances between mining locations may require the construction of transport lines or outposts. |
| Rocky Desert | Beginner | The textbook example of a FICSIT-approved building location. This spot has well-balanced resources, space, and distances to mining nodes. This starting zone is also very close to a water source, which can be used to manufacture oil. |
| Northern Forest | Advanced | A lush building location with large cliffs and few open areas, challenging conventional building and planning. However, this area is very rich in resources, proving a fitting reward for creative architects. |
| Dune Desert | Expert | A risky starting zone with large open spaces and many nearby mining locations. Both foliage and water are rare and confined, which can initially make setting up power more challenging. |
